The incident took place on Wednesday, July 12, in the afternoon. – Police officers from Lwówek Śląski were notified that an unexploded ordnance had been found in the village of Wieża (Gryfów Śląski municipality) – reports Senior Sergeant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer for the Lwówek police. – A man came across the shell during earthworks, which he immediately stopped.

And adds:

A police officer from the bomb-disposal and pyrotechnics group sent to the scene determined that it was an artillery shell dating from World War II. Until the military bomb-disposal specialists arrived, the site was secured by police officers from Gryfów and firefighters from the Volunteer Fire Service in Gryfów Śląski.

The dangerous find was dealt with by the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol from the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment. The shell was neutralized.

The officers appeal to the public not to attempt to move finds of this kind themselves, but to notify the police as soon as possible and mark the site until the patrol arrives.
