– The incident occurred around midnight. A prevention patrol decided to stop an Audi passenger car for inspection – reports junior aspirant Dominika Kwakszys, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja.
She adds: – For this purpose, the police officer gave signals ordering the driver to stop.
The driver ignored the officer’s instructions, however, and began to flee. The spokeswoman: – At first, he drove through the city streets, then, breaking the applicable regulations, he fled along the pedestrian and bicycle path leading to the Złotoryjski Reservoir, drove onto its embankment and continued along the pavement running around the reservoir.
The car eventually hit the barriers, nearly falling into the water. Junior aspirant D. Kwakszys:
This did not stop the driver, who was determined not to submit to the inspection and continued fleeing on foot. After running several hundred metres, the officers successfully subdued the fugitive, while the wrecked car was removed by a roadside assistance service.
It soon became clear why the man had fled from the police. The 29-year-old resident of Głogów has as many as five bans on driving motor vehicles. What is more, the detained man was wanted by the court because he had 100 days of imprisonment to serve.
The 29-year-old has already been taken to prison. He now additionally faces a sentence of between three months and as many as five years in prison.
