GDDKiA’s Wrocław branch: “The decisions were made on 30 June this year during a meeting of the Committee for the Assessment of Investment Projects at the General Director of National Roads and Motorways (the so-called KOPI), which summed up the Technical, Economic and Environmental Study. The meeting was attended by, among others, officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure, representatives of PKP, as well as local government officials.

Which variant was selected?

The road administrator:

Further design work (...) will concern variant III for the expansion of the A4 motorway along its existing route between the Krzyżowa and Legnica Południe interchanges.

And explains:

Currently, the A4 motorway between Krzyżowa and Legnica has two carriageways with two lanes each and no emergency lane. The planned motorway expansion will involve constructing one carriageway (three traffic lanes + an emergency lane) parallel to the existing A4, following the reconstruction of interchanges and construction of new engineering structures. Traffic will then be diverted onto the newly built carriageway, the old surface will be demolished, and the second carriageway (three traffic lanes + an emergency lane) will be constructed.

And emphasizes: “The expansion takes local conditions into account and provides for moving the road away from residential development in Krzywa and Szczytnica.

The KOPI committee’s work is scheduled to conclude in the third quarter of this year. If everything goes according to plan, the investment will be completed in 2030.

We will return to this topic.
