The District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica has concluded its investigation and submitted an indictment to the Legnica District Court against Julia K.. She is suspected of killing two men in a village near Głogów on 15 June 2022. The victims were the accused woman’s grandfather and his friend.

What did the investigators establish?

– The 20-year-old accused, Julia K., lived with her child, mother and grandfather. She was unemployed and had a problem with alcohol abuse, becoming aggressive after drinking. She had previously used drugs – reports Lidia Tkaczyszyn, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica. – Because of Julia K.’s behaviour, the so-called “Blue Card” procedure had been initiated in the family.

That afternoon, the accused woman’s grandfather, his friend and the accused drank alcohol together at home, after which an argument broke out. The spokesperson said: – As a result of the argument, the accused stabbed both victims, causing them to die at the scene.

She added:

Alerted by neighbours about sounds of an argument coming from the house, the accused’s mother, who had been away, returned home and discovered the bodies of the two men. A doctor from the emergency medical service called to the scene pronounced them dead. Police officers who arrived at the scene arrested Julia K., who was intoxicated and found outside the house. Before the police arrived, the accused had washed and changed her clothes.

She further explained:

An autopsy of the victims established that Julia K. had inflicted dozens of stab wounds on each of the men, causing injuries in the form of puncture wounds to various parts of the body, as well as internal and external bleeding with other complications, resulting in their deaths.

K. did not plead guilty and also refused to give an explanation.

Investigators: – In the opinion issued after the forensic psychiatric observation, the examining psychiatrists and psychologist found no intellectual disability or mental illness—psychosis—or any other mental disorders in the accused, either currently or at the time of the alleged offences, that would have affected her criminal responsibility. Therefore, in the experts’ view, Julia K. was sane at the time of the crimes and is fit to stand trial. The experts did, however, diagnose alcohol dependence and, additionally, simple alcohol intoxication at the relevant time, which did not affect her criminal responsibility.

Julia K. faces up to life imprisonment.
