Officers carried out a rather unusual intervention last weekend. – The duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja received a report stating that a man, walking along the disused railway track between Świerzawa and Wojcieszów, had trapped his leg and needed help because he was unable to get out on his own – reports junior aspirant Dominika Kwakszys of the Złotoryja police. – Officers from the Police Station in Świerzawa went to the scene.
The intervention was not as straightforward as it might have seemed. The caller was unable to provide a more precise location, so the officers had to check several kilometres of the disused railway line, which was quite a challenge after dark.
Spokeswoman:
The police began checking the route from the section between the localities of Stara Kraśnica and Świerzawa. On foot, using flashlight beams, they checked each successive metre of the track. After about two kilometres, they heard a man's voice and reached him shortly afterwards.
It turned out that the 44-year-old had fallen into a hole containing a concrete culvert, and his leg had become trapped. Junior aspirant D. Kwakszys: – The police officers dug away the soil by hand, thereby freeing the man. Fortunately, he did not suffer serious leg injuries and did not require medical assistance, and the operation was concluded.
