The incident occurred on August 10 this year. During work to revitalize the municipal park, construction workers unearthed a skull and several small human bones. The remains were found near the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at Zamkowy Square. The bones were lying shallowly, at a depth of approximately 50 cm; there was no outline of a burial pit or coffin. Andrzej Kuriata, head of the Public Procurement and Municipal Investments Department of the Bolesławiec City Office, notified an archaeologist about the discovery.
The age of the bones was initially estimated at approximately 200 years. The human remains were probably transported here—with the soil—from the Protestant cemetery that stood on Garncarska Street. An anthropologist from Wrocław is investigating the matter. The results of the examination should be known within one or two weeks. We will return to the matter.
