Since 17 March, employees of the Municipal Services Company (ZGK) in Lubków have been dealing with the problem of animal skins and bones clogging the sewer system.

– The matter is particularly difficult because the remains clog and damage the sewer system – says Radosław Palczewski, head of ZGK. – They do not pass through the pipes; they clog the manholes. There is also the question of how they are being thrown in. They are probably thrown directly into manholes and inspection hatches. The hatches are lifted and the skins end up inside. These are usually large quantities, so there is no possibility that such waste could pass through the system, because it cannot even pass through a toilet or sink. In practice, this concerns the larger inspection hatches, because every sewer system has them at manholes and pumping stations. Initially, this was discovered in several places. In total, we found around seven different cases of such skins near manholes. Therefore, I notified the district veterinary officer and – in view of the possibility that a crime had been committed – the police. At the same time, I also informed the Warta Bolesławiecka municipality, as the responsible entity – adds the president of ZGK in Lubków.

The police will investigate the details; for now, we are waiting to see what the officers determine. ZGK employees will continue to monitor the network. Particular attention is being paid to more sensitive and less visible locations, away from commonly frequented areas, because the dumping of animal remains may be deliberately concealed.
