On 12 May, a resident of Karkonosze County reported to the Police Station in Karpacz that she had been scammed by someone impersonating her daughter. – The scammer contacted her via a messaging app and asked her to transfer cash to the indicated account to purchase a mobile phone – reports junior inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer for the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra. – The woman transferred the money and thus lost nearly PLN 1,300.

Police officers warn: – Before deciding to help another person by transferring our money to them, let us confirm that we are actually communicating with that person.

They also remind us of several important rules:

  • Let us protect our access passwords and remember to ensure that the passwords we enter cannot be deciphered by unauthorized persons. For security, let us change them every few months.
  • Let us remember to log out of applications every time we finish using them.
  • Let us not open emails from unknown senders, and, most importantly, their attachments.
  • Scammers often impersonate bank websites or popular auction and social media portals. Let us remember not to enter our login or password if we have any doubts.
  • Let us inform children about the harmful consequences of using the Internet.
  • Let us monitor the websites viewed by the youngest children.
  • Let us block websites that, in our opinion, children should not view.
  • Let us update the operating system and software we use.
