The incident occurred on Sunday, 14 May, a few minutes after 6 p.m. – The duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Polkowice received a report of an accident on the Tarnówek–Krzydłowice county road – reports junior aspirant Przemysław Rybikowski, press officer of the Polkowice District Police Headquarters.
He adds:
Preliminary findings by investigators indicate that a 64-year-old man from Lubin, driving a passenger Toyota, collided with a cyclist travelling in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, despite resuscitation efforts, the cyclist died at the scene.
The car driver was sober; blood was taken from the cyclist for testing.
The prosecutor’s office and police are investigating the case. The spokesperson adds: – The cyclist mentioned was the third fatality on the roads of Polkowice County in 2023. During the same period last year, police recorded only one fatal accident.
Police:
We appeal to drivers and other road users to exercise particular caution while travelling. Excessive speed, distraction on the road and the recklessness of road users continue to be the most common causes of road incidents. Let us slow down and exercise the utmost caution so that unnecessary tragedies do not occur on our roads.
