The District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica is supervising criminal proceedings conducted by the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters concerning the telephone insulting of and issuing criminal threats against officers of the State Fire Service. – The actions carried out in these proceedings made it possible to establish the perpetrator of these crimes, who turned out to be 39-year-old Mariusz Z., without a permanent registered address, residing in Warsaw – reports Lidia Tkaczyszyn, press spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica.
On 27 April, the man was detained by the Police in Warsaw and brought to Legnica for procedural activities. The spokesperson: – He was charged with four crimes, including three acts of insulting, by telephone, officers of the State Fire Service serving as press officers of the Provincial Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Wrocław, the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Góra and the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Złotoryja, using vulgar and commonly regarded as offensive words, during and in connection with the performance of their official duties, as well as a fourth act consisting of threatening, during a telephone conversation with one of the aforementioned press officers, to take his life and cause him bodily harm.
The evidence collected shows that these incidents took place on 19 April this year. On that day, Mariusz Z., making telephone calls from an identified phone number, insulted State Fire Service officers during conversations, repeatedly directing a series of vulgar and offensive words at them. The suspect, with considerable verbal aggression in his voice, in addition to insulting the State Fire Service, threatened one of the service’s press officers with death.
Z. did not admit to committing the alleged acts. Prosecutor L. Tkaczyszyn: – He gave an account that contradicts other objective evidence. The aforementioned man had already been convicted of a similar crime – exerting influence through an unlawful threat and the promise to use violence, via the internet, over the official activities of a Police officer.
Pre-trial detention
On 28 April, the prosecutor submitted a motion to the court for the temporary detention of Mariusz Z. for two months. The court granted the motion.
The man faces up to five years in prison. The spokesperson announces: – The prosecutor will seek to have Mariusz Z. receive severe individual sentences as well as a severe aggregate sentence of imprisonment.
