Before the Legnica court, a verdict was handed down in a high-profile case. The now 39-year-old Grzegorz K. was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He will also have to pay the victim PLN 10,000.

Let us recall. In February, we reported that the Legnica District Prosecutor’s Office had concluded its investigation and filed an indictment with the Legnica District Court against Grzegorz K. for attempting to rape a woman at the PKP railway station in Legnica and for possessing drugs.

The incident occurred on November 9, 2022, in the evening. – On that day, 38-year-old Grzegorz K. left Wołów Prison after serving a six-year sentence imposed by the District Court in Leszno for committing robbery and causing bodily harm under conditions of multiple recidivism – prosecutor Lidia Tkaczyszyn, spokesperson for the Legnica District Prosecutor’s Office, reported at the time.

From Wołów, K. first travelled by train to Wrocław and from there to Legnica. He stayed longer in the latter city: he wandered around the railway station while drinking alcohol.

His behaviour was noticed by an officer of the Railway Protection Guard, who ordered Grzegorz K. to leave the station premises. Once again – at around 9:00 p.m. – following an intervention by a Railway Protection Guard officer on duty there, the accused left the station premises and headed towards the city.

After some time, however, he returned. He entered the station building through a side entrance and hid in the women’s toilet. There, he attacked a young woman. He was naked at the time of the incident. Investigators:

The evidence established that the accused grabbed the victim, threw her to the floor, kicked her in the head and restrained her while attempting to rape her. He also covered the victim’s mouth to make it difficult for her to call for help.

Despite this, the victim fought back and called for help. She was rescued by a Railway Protection Guard officer who was checking the station premises to see whether the accused had returned. At that moment, he heard the cry for help.

The prosecutor’s office added: – This witness subdued the accused using tear gas and handcuffs, and the victim called the police. At the time of the incident, the accused was intoxicated. He had methamphetamine in his wallet.

Grzegorz K. was detained and then, at the prosecutor’s request, temporarily remanded in custody by the court. Investigators: – The pre-trial detention was recently extended by a court order for another period.
