The District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica has completed its investigation and filed an indictment with the District Court in Legnica against Grzegorz K. for attempting to rape a woman on the premises of the PKP station in Legnica and for possessing drugs.
The incident occurred on November 9, 2022, in the evening. – That day, 38-year-old Grzegorz K. left the prison in Wołów after serving a six-year sentence imposed by the District Court in Leszno for committing robbery and causing bodily harm under conditions of multiple recidivism – prosecutor Lidia Tkaczyszyn, press spokesperson for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica, reports.
From Wołów, K. first travelled by train to Wrocław and from there to Legnica. He stayed in the latter city for longer: he wandered around the railway station while drinking alcohol.
His behaviour was noticed by an officer of the Railway Protection Guard, who ordered Grzegorz K. to leave the station premises. Once again – at around 9 p.m. – after an intervention by a Railway Protection Guard officer on duty there, the defendant left the station premises and headed towards the city.
After some time, however, he returned. He entered the station building through a side entrance and hid in the women’s restroom. There, he attacked a young woman. He was naked during the incident. Investigators:
The evidence established that the defendant grabbed the victim, knocked her to the floor, kicked her in the head and restrained her while attempting to rape her. At the same time, he covered the victim’s mouth to make it difficult for her to call for help.
Despite this, the victim defended herself and called for help. She was rescued by a Railway Protection Guard officer who was checking the station grounds to see whether the defendant had returned. It was then that he heard the call for help.
The prosecutor’s office adds: – The witness subdued the defendant using tear gas and handcuffs, while the victim called the police. At the time of the incident, the defendant was intoxicated. He had methamphetamine in his wallet.
Grzegorz K. was detained and then, at the prosecutor’s request, remanded in custody by the court. Investigators: – Recently, the pre-trial detention was extended by a court order for another period.
K. could now face up to 18 years in prison. Lidia Tkaczyszyn:
The prosecutor will seek a severe prison sentence for this defendant – at the upper end of the statutory penalty range.
