Junior Aspirant Dominika Kwakszys, press officer of the County Police Headquarters in Złotoryja, on the incident:

At around 9:00 p.m., the duty officer at the Złotoryja police station was notified of a road accident that occurred at the 67th kilometre of the A4 motorway towards Zgorzelec. According to preliminary findings, the driver of a delivery van most likely stopped the vehicle in the right lane because of a breakdown. Another delivery-van driver stopped in front of it and attempted to tow the vehicle. At that time, the driver of a Volkswagen—for reasons currently unknown—hit the rear of the delivery van that had broken down. The driver was outside the vehicle at the time and, unfortunately, died at the scene as a result of his injuries. The other two drivers, who suffered bodily injuries, were taken to hospital.

As a reminder, the incident occurred on 30 January. At around 9:00 p.m., the duty officer of the Złotoryja County Headquarters of the State Fire Service received a report of an accident involving three vehicles at the 67th kilometre of the A4 motorway towards the border.

Volunteer firefighters from Zagrodno:

The firefighters’ actions involved securing the accident scene, blocking traffic on the motorway, evacuating a driver trapped in a vehicle using hydraulic tools, and providing first aid to the injured.

The uniformed officers add: – As a result of this incident, a doctor pronounced one of the accident participants dead, while the other two drivers, who suffered multiple injuries, were taken to hospitals in Legnica and Bolesławiec.

The motorway was blocked in this section for several hours. Police and the prosecutor’s office are determining the causes of the tragedy.
