The incident occurred on Sunday, November 6, at around 10 a.m. – A resident of Ścinawa called the duty officer’s emergency number. He reported that on one of the city’s streets he had noticed the driver of an Opel passenger car who was probably drunk. According to the witness, the man was driving across the entire width of the road, damaging the safety barriers by a store – reports asp. szt. Sylwia Serafin, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin.

She adds:

A road-traffic patrol from the Lubin command was immediately sent to the scene.

At the indicated street, officers found an abandoned damaged car in which there was no driver. Witnesses provided the officers with a description of the driver. The latter then began searching for the perpetrator.

On one of Ścinawa’s streets, police officers noticed a man matching the description. The 22-year-old resident of Lubin County was detained.

The officers detected a strong smell of alcohol from him. It turned out that the 22-year-old was completely drunk; a test showed 2.8 promille of alcohol in his system.

The detainee admitted that he had been drinking alcohol. He also confessed that when he began to sober up, he regretted what he had done.

And he had something to regret. As it was established, while driving through the streets of Ścinawa, the young man managed to damage three parked vehicles, five safety barriers by a supermarket, as well as the D-6 information sign indicating a pedestrian crossing.

The 22-year-old has already lost his driving licence. But that is not the end of it. Police:

Let us remember! Driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated is a crime punishable by up to two years in prison. It is also extreme irresponsibility that can have tragic consequences. We appeal for responsibility and common sense behind the wheel.
