Police officers from the Prevention Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra detained a 48-year-old resident of Legnica suspected of failing to stop for a roadside inspection, driving while intoxicated, causing a road traffic hazard and causing a collision. In addition, the officers detained a 29-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County, a passenger in the vehicle suspected of possessing drugs.
On October 1, 2022, at approximately 12:10 a.m., officers on Cieplicka Street in Jelenia Góra noticed a BMW with German registration plates. When the driver saw the patrol car, he accelerated sharply and tried to change direction. The officers activated their light and sound signals and signaled the driver to stop. However, he did not respond, accelerated and began to flee. The officers set off after him. They notified the Jelenia Góra police duty officer, and additional patrols joined the operation.

While fleeing, the driver endangered other road users, drove at high speed, ignored traffic lights, drove against traffic and forced other drivers to brake. Trying to avoid being stopped on Jana Pawła II Street in Jelenia Góra, the man hit a police patrol car. He was detained. The driver turned out to be a 48-year-old resident of Legnica. During the officers’ actions, they detected a strong smell of alcohol on him. A breath test showed more than 1 per mille. The officers also detained a 29-year-old passenger who, as it turned out, possessed amphetamine.
The officers are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the case in detail.
The men were taken into police custody. The driver may face up to 5 years in prison for the acts committed, while the passenger may face up to 3 years for possessing drugs.
