– A few minutes after midnight, the duty officer at the Bolesławiec police headquarters received a report concerning a citizen’s arrest of a drunk driver, which took place in the Warta Bolesławiecka municipality – reports Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters. – The incident took place in a car park, where a man under the influence of alcohol crashed the vehicle he was driving into a parked car. Seeing the driver’s condition, the reporting party took his keys and called the police.

As it turned out, the reporting party’s suspicions were entirely justified. It emerged that the 36-year-old Ukrainian citizen had been driving with two per mille of alcohol in his system. The foreign national, who was aggressive when detained, has already had his driving licence confiscated.

The Ukrainian man will be held responsible for drunk driving, colliding with another vehicle and violating the bodily integrity of an officer. The foreign national faces up to three years in prison.

That was not the end of the matter, however. It also became clear that the person who had made the report had to be detained... himself. He was wanted by officers from Jelenia Góra in connection with the theft of copper components from railway-line infrastructure worth PLN 130,000.

Our fellow countryman now faces up to eight years in prison.
