– The duty officer at the Zgorzelec County Police Headquarters was notified of a robbery theft that occurred in one of the city’s supermarkets. According to the initial findings, a security guard tried to detain a man who had taken two bottles of alcohol from a shelf and wanted to leave the store without paying – reports Staff Sergeant Paweł Noga of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – The offender became aggressive, wrestled with the security guard, pushed him away, then helped him to his feet, only to push him away again a moment later and flee.

Criminal investigators and traffic police joined the operation. The aggressor was detained several streets away.

Spokesperson: – The offender turned out to be a 29-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County who was already known to officers from previous proceedings. The man was taken to the police headquarters, where he was charged with robbery theft.

The 29-year-old was charged with five offences in total. (These included earlier shoplifting incidents.) Each time, the suspect stole alcohol and cigarettes. His total haul was worth nearly PLN 4,000.

As the detainee had already been convicted of this type of offence, he now faces up to 15 years behind bars. At the prosecutor’s request, the court remanded the 29-year-old in custody for two months.
