Zgorzelec, Lwówek Śląski and Lubin—tragic road incidents recently occurred in these places. – In Zgorzelec, three vehicles collided. As a result, a 65-year-old Ford driver died at the scene, while his passenger was taken to hospital. In Lwówek Śląski, the driver of a refuse collection truck moved into the left lane and collided head-on with a 65-year-old moped rider, who had no chance of surviving. In Lubin, a 22-year-old man was taken to hospital after, while driving a passenger car, he probably moved onto the roadside, hit a tree and then rolled over,” explains asp. Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
She adds:
The circumstances of these incidents are currently being investigated by detectives. These are just a few road incidents from Lower Silesia that affected the future of those involved and could have been avoided.
Police officers:
WE APPEAL to all road users to observe safety rules and strictly comply with the applicable regulations. Let us remember that vehicle drivers must exercise particular caution when joining traffic, changing lanes or changing direction, and must look in their rear-view mirrors every time. A motorcyclist, moped rider or even cyclist may approach at any moment.
Proper visibility is an integral part of road safety. We advise pedestrians, rollerbladers and scooter users to supplement their outer clothing with reflective elements, preferably a reflective vest. We remind cyclists that a bicycle properly prepared for riding must have lights and reflective elements. Additional reflectors on a jacket or trouser leg will not hurt and will certainly help. Proper lighting of motor vehicles on the roads is equally important—working headlights and clear, clean front and side windows allow the surroundings to be properly illuminated and other road users to be spotted.
They also add:
Once again, police officers remind drivers always to exercise particular caution when approaching a pedestrian crossing. When you see a pedestrian, take your foot off the accelerator so that, if the pedestrian enters the roadway, you can safely stop your vehicle. Let us also remember that overtaking before or on a pedestrian crossing, passing a vehicle travelling in the same direction that has stopped to give pedestrians right of way, and failing to yield to a pedestrian on the road are the main causes of road accidents involving vulnerable road users.
Therefore, let us be visible, cautious and sensible, avoid rushing, and respect other road users.
