On Thursday, June 9, after 6:00 a.m., officers from Bolesławiec received a report of a vehicle stolen from a yard. KPP: – The information was immediately passed on to all patrols.

A few minutes later, police officers spotted the stolen car. When the driver saw the police vehicle, he began to flee; he completely ignored the light and sound signals given by the officers.

– The chase moved onto the roads of neighboring counties, where officers from the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski and the Police Station in Chojnów joined in – explains staff aspirant Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec.

At one point, the driver entered a forest, where he tried to escape on foot. It did not help much – the suspect was arrested. (Police dogs from Lwówek Śląski were also used at the scene).

It then turned out that the fugitive was traveling with a woman. However, as established, she had not taken part in the thief’s criminal activities.

In total, the detainee was charged with 10 offenses. The Bolesławiec police spokeswoman: – The 30-year-old stole three cars within four days – all of them had their keys inside. The suspect explained that early in the morning on June 6, in a rural area, he noticed a passenger car in a yard. When he grabbed the handle, it turned out that the car was unlocked and that there were keys in the ignition.

Additionally, at the same property, he stole 70 liters of diesel fuel from a tractor. He set the car on fire in order to sell it later as scrap, and gave the fuel to friends.

The next day, he found another car with the keys inside and stole that one as well. Two days later, he abandoned the stolen vehicle on the outskirts of the city. The reason? He had already set his sights on another target.

On the day he was caught, at around 6:00 a.m., he got into the car he had selected earlier. He set off on another drive, which ended with his arrest in the forest.

Officers:

Investigators determined that the perpetrator had made one more attempt to steal a vehicle, but despite the keys being in the ignition, he was unable to do what he intended.

But that was not all. The resident of Nowogrodziec municipality had also committed other offenses: he was under a court-ordered driving ban and his driving privileges had been revoked. And, additionally... he was driving while intoxicated.

During the arrest, police officers found on the 30-year-old the keys to a vehicle stolen two days earlier. The losses caused by the thief’s reckless exploits were estimated at nearly PLN 30,000.

What sentence will he receive?

The perpetrator faces up to five years in prison. KPP: – The suspect was taken straight to prison because he was wanted by the Bolesławiec court. He has an 18-month sentence to serve for property offenses committed in the past.
