On the afternoon of 8 June, a serious-looking road incident occurred on one of the streets in Głuszyca (Wałbrzych County). – A passenger car driven by a 65-year-old man suddenly left the roadway, damaged a road sign and ultimately hit a pedestrian walking on the pavement – reports asp. szt. Monika Kaleta from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
She adds:
According to findings by traffic police officers from Wałbrzych, the 65-year-old became distracted by his navigation system and stopped paying attention to what was happening on the road. As a result, he drove onto the pavement and ultimately hit an 82-year-old man. The senior citizen suffered serious bodily injuries and was taken to hospital.
The officers ultimately confiscated the driver's licence and electronically revoked the vehicle registration certificate.
The officers said: – We appeal to people driving all types of vehicles to remain continuously focused and cautious on the roads. It is also worth mentioning once again the need to adjust speed to the prevailing road conditions and not exceed the permitted speed limit.
They added: – Let us remember to overtake only in permitted places. Before beginning a manoeuvre, we should make sure that it will not endanger road traffic safety. Let us not cut corners or move into the opposite lane. A moment of inattention can end in a serious accident.
