– During a night patrol in the municipality, officers from the Zgorzelec SPEED group spotted a motorcyclist whose registration plate was bent – explains Commissioner Agnieszka Goguł, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec. – The officers attempted to stop him for a traffic check. However, he ignored the visual and audible signals ordering him to stop, accelerated and began to flee.
At one point – because of excessive speed and the slippery surface – the fugitive lost control of the vehicle and drove onto a nearby field, where he was detained by the officers.
Why did he flee?
As it turned out, the 29-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County was subject to a court-ordered driving ban and had his driving privileges revoked by a decision of the starost. In addition, the Honda motorcycle he was riding was not approved for road use, and its registration plate came from another vehicle. What is more, it emerged that the extremely irresponsible motorcyclist was under the influence of methamphetamine.
The man has already been fined PLN 2,000. He now faces up to five years in prison.
