The May session of the Bolesławiec City Council is under way. Mayor Piotr Roman, presenting information about the most important actions taken between council sessions, informed the councillors that the city authorities had already issued 1,600 PESEL numbers to Ukrainian citizens. (Women and children accounted for 97 percent of the identification numbers mentioned.)

The mayor added that the city government itself had helped 200 Ukrainians: – On our part, the Municipal Social Welfare Centre and the Social Affairs Department were the most involved. He also mentioned the initiative of Kinga Gęsicka-Biały and the very strong commitment of Bolesławiec residents to helping the country attacked by Putin’s Russia.

Piotr Roman pointed out that the number of refugees in our city is stabilising. Some have already returned to Ukraine, while others have left for different European countries. Nevertheless, most of those who came here intend to return home. (Although they stress that they like Bolesławiec very much.)
