The subject of the gym at Orka returned during the September meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council. In August, Mayor Piotr Roman spoke about the need to consider its future operation. Shortly afterward, on 31 August, the Bolesławiec Orka Aquatic Park announced the closure of the facility.
During Wednesday’s session, P. Roman addressed questions about the place:
I know there were questions about the gym. Ladies and gentlemen, nothing major is happening here. Simply—if several more private gyms are opening in Bolesławiec, we are leaving one gym: on the premises of the Thermal Baths.
He added:
Meanwhile, this space at Orka will be used, among other things, for fitness and various other activities for which there is demand.
The mayor explained:
This is about keeping the price affordable.
He also noted that there are already as many as eight private gyms in Bolesławiec.
He also drew an analogy with the situation involving squash in Bolesławiec:
It was similar in the past: we created the first squash court, and today squash is in fact mainly played somewhere completely different. Where private capital takes over—especially when these are things that do not fully generate revenue—we have to withdraw from them.
Piotr Roman stressed that municipal facilities should also be used for other purposes:
Someone else will simply do it better, and then we can introduce other spaces.
(Previously, following the closure of the gym at Orka, residents were invited to use the offer of the Salt Thermal Baths.
