– Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec received a report of a fraud committed against an elderly person. The perpetrators misled the victim about her daughter’s health and extorted more than PLN 10,000 for alleged treatment – reports Senior Staff Warrant Officer Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer for the Bolesławiec police.
According to the officers’ findings, someone first called the senior citizen on her landline to learn about her family situation. A moment later, the criminals brought out heavier artillery. The scammer who called the 85-year-old woman from Bolesławiec claimed to be an employee of the hospital where the victim’s daughter was allegedly staying, supposedly in serious condition.
The man added that money was urgently needed for the treatment of the sick woman, who had contracted COVID. He stressed that any amount would be enough to start with. It would make it possible to begin administering the medicine.
Spokesperson: – The Bolesławiec resident said how much money she had at home. She was then instructed not to contact anyone by phone, because the line had to remain free so that she could receive ongoing information about her daughter’s condition.
Then a man came to the victim’s apartment and collected more than PLN 10,000 in cash. After the entire incident, the senior citizen called her grandson. It then became clear that no one in the family needed expensive treatment.
