She adds: – The goods, weighing nearly one and a half tonnes and having a black-market value of more than one million zlotys, as well as 270 kilograms of tobacco leaves estimated to be worth almost PLN 123,000, bore no Polish excise tax markings.
What is more, in one of the garages the border guards secured a tobacco-cutting machine with knives, as well as electronic scales. Three Polish men who were found at the site were also detained.
The men admitted to the charge of committing a fiscal criminal offense involving the storage, transport or shipment of excise goods without excise tax markings. The Border Guard said: – If these goods had entered the Polish market, the State Treasury would have lost PLN 1.5 million due to unpaid excise duty and VAT.
The perpetrators could face a prison sentence.
