The incident took place on July 23 at Poznań-Ławica Airport. Border Guard officers were notified by ground-handling staff about a group of passengers heading to Tirana whose behavior was disrupting order while they were boarding the aircraft.
The men were flying to Albania for a bachelor party. Wearing vests marked “SWAT” and caps marked “Police,” they were acting out a scene depicting a convoy escorting the groom, who was wearing a prison uniform. Despite being cautioned by airport staff, one of the participants stated that his suitcase contained “explosive material.”
Such words at an airport are always treated as a potential threat. Border Guard officers immediately initiated the required procedures and investigated the situation. Ultimately, it was confirmed that there was no real danger, but the 34-year-old man was fined for his behavior. In addition, the aircraft captain decided to remove him from the passenger list, meaning he did not fly to Tirana with the rest of the group.
An intervention also took place at Wrocław Airport that same day. An unattended backpack had been left at a bus stop near the terminal. In accordance with the applicable procedures, a specialist Border Guard pyrotechnics team was sent to the scene.
Due to the possibility of a threat, officers decided to evacuate the terminal and the area surrounding the place where the baggage had been found. After a detailed inspection, it turned out that the backpack posed no danger—it contained only food products. The intervention did not affect air traffic or cause any flight delays.
The Border Guard reminds the public that both leaving baggage unattended and making any statements suggesting possession of explosive materials or other dangerous items are treated with the utmost seriousness. Every such report triggers safety procedures intended to protect passengers and airport staff.
Officers appeal to travelers to behave responsibly while at the airport and during their journey. Even an apparently innocent joke can result in a fine, the loss of the ability to take the flight, and serious organizational consequences for everyone taking part in the trip.
