On Sunday, May 1, officers from the Border Guard Post in Zgorzelec detained near the state border four Syrian citizens (aged 47 to 52) and a 46-year-old Ukrainian citizen, the driver of the car in which the group was travelling. Ewelina Szczepańska from the Border Guard Headquarters: – It turned out that the foreigners had entered our country illegally and had also attempted to cross the Polish-German border in violation of the regulations.
Further procedural activities are being conducted concerning the Syrian citizens and the Ukrainian citizen.
On May 2, shortly after midnight, officers from the Joint Polish-German Post in Ludwigsdorf—thanks to the immediate exchange of information with the German police—detained a 20-year-old Belarusian citizen, allegedly a student at one of the Polish universities.
The officers:
The foreigner was detained for helping five Iraqi citizens cross the state border from Poland to Germany in violation of the applicable regulations.
As it turned out, the Belarusian citizen had recordings on his phone documenting the moment the Iraqis crossed the Polish-German border. He kept them because he wanted to receive payment for the services provided. The consequences? E. Szczepańska: – He will face criminal liability for aiding in the commission of an offense involving the illegal crossing of the state border. He will also receive a decision obliging him to return, as well as a temporary ban on entering Poland and other Schengen countries.
