The incident occurred on Saturday, March 26. Volunteer firefighters from Parowa:

[…] our firefighters were dispatched to the village of Ołobok. Unexploded ordnance was found in a forested area there.

They added:

The site was secured and handed over to a police patrol. A JRG Bolesławiec unit also took part in the operation.

As reported on its Facebook profile by Patrol Saperski Bolesławiec:

Our page is dedicated to educating the public about the dangers posed by unexploded ordnance, duds, and military-origin explosive and hazardous objects, as well as the rules to follow after finding them.

It should be understood that explosives used in military technology are, in practice, completely resistant to weather conditions and retain their explosive properties regardless of their date of manufacture.

The bomb-disposal specialists add:

If you have any suspicion about the object you have found, call the bomb-disposal specialists.

They will eliminate the danger; they are properly equipped and trained to do so.

What should you do if you find unexploded ordnance or a dud?

  1. Do not touch the object.
  2. Secure the area from bystanders (e.g. children) and mark it.
  3. Immediately report the matter by calling the emergency number 112; notify the police, municipal police, fire service, or forestry service.
