The incident occurred on March 7. – Before 3:00 a.m., the duty officer at the Jawor County Police Headquarters received a report of a fire involving a Hyundai passenger car, which was parked on the property of one of the households in the Paszowice municipality – reports Senior Warrant Officer Ewa Kluczyńska, press officer at the Jawor County Police Headquarters. – The findings of the officers working at the scene indicated that someone had set the car on fire. The losses were estimated at PLN 10,000. The actions taken immediately after the crime did not lead to identifying or arresting the perpetrator.
The police continued their work on the case, gathering evidence and questioning witnesses. A recording from nearby surveillance cameras proved crucial in solving the mystery.
It soon emerged that the arsonist was a 27-year-old resident of Jawor County who had attacked the parked Hyundai with a Molotov cocktail. The spokesperson said:
The recording shows the man driving his car onto the victim’s property and then throwing at the parked Hyundai a beer bottle filled with gasoline, with a burning piece of material protruding from it, before fleeing the scene.
Why did this happen? The suspect thought the car he set on fire belonged to a friend with whom he was in conflict. In fact, it belonged to that acquaintance’s partner.
Now the “revenge genius” could spend up to five years behind bars.
