The incident occurred on Thursday, 3 March, in the Bolesławiec economic zone. A mortar grenade was found during construction work. The Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol from the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, which secured the find yesterday, began efforts today to neutralize the unexploded ordnance. (Due to the projectile’s technical condition, it could not be transported; the detonation will take place on site.)

What was found in the zone?

A Soviet-made mortar grenade from World War II. Caliber: 82 mm.

Are there more unexploded ordnance items there?

As st. chor. sztab. Radosław Mazur, commander of the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol, informed us, the area was checked yesterday. There are no other unexploded ordnance items there.

The head of the Bolesławiec bomb-disposal team points out that this situation would not have occurred if the investor had previously commissioned the sappers to check the site for unexploded ordnance—something that is currently cheaper per square meter than mowing grass along the roadside. Unfortunately, there are no precise regulations obliging businesses to do so. However, in the opinion of st. chor. sztab. R. Mazur, this reflects a lack of responsibility on the part of investors.

The bomb-disposal specialists will begin their work once they receive a signal from the Bolesławiec City Office that all bystanders have been evacuated. The operation is expected to end by 3:00 p.m.
