Officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn, analyzing further information and findings concerning two brazen thefts from last year, identified the perpetrator. Staff Sgt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec:

The man appeared in Bolesławiec County from time to time and then disappeared.

And no wonder: it turned out that he was a 31-year-old Slovak citizen who came to Poland for business purposes.

How was he caught?

The spokesperson:

A few days ago, officers established that the man had once again come to Poland and was staying in Zgorzelec County. Working with police officers from the neighboring county, they detained the perpetrator and brought him before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec.

The 31-year-old will face charges for two so-called brazen thefts committed in Bolesławiec County:

  • In April 2021, in the economic zone, the detainee approached a man sitting in a vehicle and asked him for money. When he received it, he was very dissatisfied. (There was not enough cash.) However, the Slovak noticed that the car of the man who had helped him contained a wallet, so… he stole it, then got into the car and drove away.
  • The second theft took place in September of the previous year. The perpetrator approached a random man and stole his wallet, which he was carrying in a shoulder bag.

In total, the foreign national made off with more than PLN 13,000, as well as documents and payment cards.

That was not the end of it, however. In November, the Slovak resumed his criminal activities in the area. This time, he committed four fuel thefts. (He filled up and drove away without paying).

The detained Slovak faces up to eight years in prison. The prosecutor imposed a ban on leaving the country.
