Last month, soldiers from the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment dealt with artillery shells and unexploded ordnance found in forested areas and took part in several call-outs involving dangerous objects discovered during construction work. During that period, they neutralized more than 20 different hazardous items.

During earthworks connected with the construction of the A18 motorway, a heavily corroded anti-tank grenade launcher projectile dating from World War II was discovered. After receiving the report, the bomb disposal specialists went to the site and, following an assessment, determined that for safety reasons the grenade had to be detonated where it was found. The operation was led by Sergeant Andrzej Walęga.

The task required explosives, including electric detonators and blocks of TNT. During the mine-clearance and explosive ordnance disposal work and the detonation, traffic in both directions on the road was blocked in cooperation with police officers and other services.

With the season of spring work in agriculture and horticulture approaching, the bomb disposal specialists appeal to the public not to touch unexploded ordnance or other dangerous objects if found, to mark the location and report it as soon as possible by calling the emergency number or the police.
