The celebrations were held at the Żagań-Świętoszów Land Forces Training Area. Subunits of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Brigade have been training there since 15 March. During the ceremonial assembly, Colonel Jarosław Kraszewski, the Brigade’s commander, honored the best artillerymen and awarded the winners of a sports and defense competition in which students from military-profile classes in Bolesławiec, Zgorzelec, Rakowice, Lubań and Złotoryja took part. The team from Złotoryja proved to be the best in the tournament. Students from Lubań took second place, and competitors from Rakowice Wielkie came third.

That day, staff warrant officer Krzysztof Stefański, warrant officer Radosław Mazur, junior warrant officer Krzysztof Rajczakowski and staff sergeant Adam Wiśniewski were also bid farewell as they left for a mission in Afghanistan.

Among those attending the ceremony were Deputy Head of Land Forces Training Stanisław Butlak, Deputy Bolesławiec County Head Stanisław Chwojnicki, Mayor of Nowogrodziec Robert Relich and Bolesławiec commune head Kazimierz Gawron.
