Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec. – After checking, it turned out that 3 vehicles had been lost as a result of crimes.

How did the thief operate?

Officers:

The suspect provides transport services using a tow truck. On his way back from a route, so as not to drive empty, he looked out for “abandoned” vehicles, winched them onto the tow truck and took them with him.

The fact is that none of the cars secured at the 33-year-old’s property had been abandoned. All had broken down, but they still had owners:

  • A woman from Bolesławiec left her damaged vehicle, worth PLN 13,000, on one of the city’s streets.
  • In the Greater Poland Voivodeship, on the S5 route, a driver experienced a turbocharger failure, so he left the car in a nearby car park.
  • In Lubin County, the car had also been left by its owner because it had broken down.

The 33-year-old claimed that all the cars mentioned had been abandoned, which proved untrue in every case. The owners simply had not yet managed to arrange transport to take their vehicles for repairs.

The suspect pleaded guilty. He explained that he wanted to obtain car parts in this way and scrap the remaining components. The 33-year-old now faces up to 10 years in prison.

The value of the recovered property is PLN 25,000.
