Border guards and railway security officers detained 14 foreigners from Iraq and Iran on 24 November who were staying in Poland illegally. – Given the place of their detention, it was clear that they had not got there on their own – says Maj. SG Joanna Konieczniak, spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit. – Border Guard officers immediately took action to establish who had brought them to the Polish-German border.

As a result, the personal details and address of the 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen were established. He had helped the foreigners cross the state border illegally in exchange for money.

The Ukrainian man was detained. Nearly PLN 70,000 in cash was found in his apartment. Spokesperson:

On the same day, Border Guard officers launched preparatory proceedings. The prosecutor supervising the investigation from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Zgorzelec charged the 37-year-old with helping organize the illegal crossing of the state border by foreigners. The foreign national confessed to committing the alleged offence.

The Zgorzelec court remanded the suspect in temporary custody for two months. Maj. SG J. Konieczniak adds:

Since the beginning of August, officers from posts of the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit have detained 61 people who were charged with helping organize the illegal crossing of the state border. Fifty-five of them were foreigners. Nine such people were detained in Lower Silesia.
