The incident took place on Monday, November 22, at approximately 9:00 p.m. in Pasiecznik, in the Lubomierz municipality. The duty officer at the Lwówek police headquarters received information that Ukrainian citizens were walking around a property and that one of them had a knife.

As Lwówek police reported in an official statement:

The duty officer at the Lwówek unit sent two police patrols to the scene. As the officers were arriving, they saw a man walking along the pavement who, upon seeing the police cars, began waving a knife. The officers took action against the man, ordering him to drop the dangerous weapon. Despite the orders, he failed to comply, was aggressive and waved the knife at the police officers. The officers used direct coercive measures, but they were ineffective. During the intervention, the attacker injured one of the police officers in the hand. As the man became increasingly aggressive and did not respond to the orders, the officers fired warning shots from their service weapons in a safe direction, which was also ineffective.

The statement adds:

When the aggressor continued attacking the police officers, one of them fired a shot to incapacitate the man in order to repel a direct threat to life and health. The attacker was wounded in the leg, given medical assistance and taken to hospital.

The man who actively assaulted the officers turned out to be a 48-year-old Ukrainian citizen who, at the time of the incident, had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.

The police and the prosecutor’s office are investigating the case.
