Recently, a truly scandalous and terrifying situation occurred at a county hospital. A woman suffering from COVID-19, who was listed in the system as vaccinated, admitted to the medical staff that she was not actually vaccinated. Someone had falsified her medical records.
The critically ill patient was transported to a hospital in Wrocław. What happened to her is not known at this time.
As he told the portal istotne.pl Kamil Barczyk, head of the Healthcare Team in Bolesławiec, there have been several such patients recently. Although only the aforementioned woman explicitly admitted to the fraud, based on the course of the illness, hospital staff can see that some patients are vaccinated only on paper. Fortunately, none of those patients suffered a tragic outcome. At least for now.
Nevertheless, in the director’s opinion, this behavior is “highly irresponsible,” especially since hospital staff are working extremely hard in the fight against the pandemic.
In Poland, vaccination is not currently mandatory, and it is not known whether it will be introduced at all. Why go to the additional trouble of obtaining a fake certificate? It is speculated that the reasons involve the ability to travel abroad and avoid paying for expensive tests.
The problem is that a person vaccinated only in theory not only risks a severe course of the disease, but may also infect their loved ones and even face criminal charges. Those who helped falsify the medical records may also be held liable. Radio RMF FM reported at the beginning of November that police in Kalisz, Greater Poland, had arrested three nurses who were issuing fake COVID certificates. The result? People came to Kalisz from all over Poland and received false documents for PLN 500–700.
As a reminder, this type of fraud carries a penalty of between six months and as much as eight years in prison. We will return to this case.
