– The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) combating cross-border crime, comprising officers from Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, carried out coordinated operations in the three countries in September this year – reports Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, press spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.

The result? In Wrocław and the surrounding area, officers searched two warehouses and a delivery van. A total of 3.4 million illegal cigarettes of various brands were found. Some of the cigarettes were hidden in cartons containing dietary supplements.

In Slovakia, three complete cigarette production lines were dismantled and 1.6 million cigarettes were seized.

As part of the operation, nine Polish citizens were arrested in Poland, five suspects in Slovakia and a further five people in the Czech Republic – 19 detainees in total. Seven people were remanded in custody (five in Poland and two in Slovakia).

Those arrested on the Polish side were charged with participating in an organized criminal group, including one person who was charged with leading the group. The remaining charges concerned fiscal offenses.
