The incident occurred in mid-October. “According to the officers’ preliminary information, an unknown man entered one of the churches in Legnica and stole a candlestick and a collection box,” reports asp. Krzysztof Oleniacz of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters.
The losses were estimated at PLN 1,200. The officers identified and arrested the suspect. He turned out to be a 29-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County. As the detainee explained during questioning, he felt hungry while passing through Legnica and committed the theft.
The 29-year-old could now face a sentence of between three months and as many as five years in prison.
