Bolesławiec criminal investigators established the identity and arrested the driver who, several hours earlier, had endangered other road users while fleeing from police officers.

How did the whole situation unfold?

Staff Aspirant Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters:

Officers from the Legnica SPPP, serving in Bolesławiec, wanted to check a vehicle whose driver had committed a traffic offence.

However, he did not stop. On the contrary. During rush hour, he fled through the city streets, breaking regulations and forcing other drivers to make sudden manoeuvres, thereby—as investigators believe—creating a direct risk of a catastrophe in land traffic.

The spokesperson said: “At one point, while driving into a residential estate where there was little room to manoeuvre, the driver abandoned the vehicle. The perpetrator thought that if he left the car, which had not been re-registered after it was purchased, the police would not find him.”

He was wrong. Several hours later, the 40-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County fell into the hands of criminal investigators. At the prosecutor’s office, he was charged with creating a direct risk of a catastrophe in land traffic.

The court remanded the suspect in custody for three months. The 40-year-old now faces a sentence of between six months and as much as eight years in prison.

Let us recall. The incident took place on 20 October. At the time, we reported as follows:

The chase began after 4:30 p.m. in the city centre. Two young men fled through Łasicka and Starzyńskiego streets in a navy-blue BWM car (registration DW). On Starzyńskiego Street, they abandoned the vehicle and fled.

The police organised a manhunt. All criminal investigation units were sent to the scene.
