We have been reporting for some time now that the fourth wave of coronavirus is gaining momentum. Adam Niedzielski, head of the Ministry of Health, gave an interview to the Polish Press Agency. Among other things, the minister was asked whether another lockdown would be introduced. A. Niedzielski:
Decisions will be made at the beginning of November. We need to have a clear picture of the course of the pandemic during the last week of October. However, I would like to emphasize that, for the government, restrictions are a last resort because of the social and economic costs they entail. [...] But of course, we take into account that some decisive action may have to be introduced if there is a risk that the healthcare system will be threatened with paralysis.
Asked whether the government was considering closing schools, the minister replied firmly:
That is out of the question. There is no such plan; schools will remain open.
