The implementation of the plans was made possible by the involvement of EU funds, sometimes covering as much as 100 percent of the value of the planned project. Here are several examples.

New ward in Legnica

Construction of a pavilion and the renovation of the ground floor of the adjacent building at the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Legnica are nearing completion. An infectious diseases ward will be opened there. Years ago, such a ward was closed at the Legnica hospital, but the pandemic showed how important it is for the efficient functioning of the facility and for the patients themselves. The new ward will have a separate admissions unit and its own ambulance driveway. Patient rooms for 15 people, along with auxiliary rooms, will be arranged, with everything strictly adapted to regulations governing the operation of infectious diseases wards.

“This will be the most modern infectious diseases ward in the country. We will admit the first patients this year,” says Anna Płotnicka-Mieloch, the hospital director.

Equipment for the clinic

The Izerskie Centre of Pulmonology and Chemotherapy “Izer-Med” in Szklarska Poręba has also set itself the goal of expanding the range of consultations for patients suffering from post-COVID complications. It was necessary to purchase high-quality medical equipment for the pulmonary clinic, including an intubation fiberscope, a visualization system with video bronchoscopes, a bronchoscopy set and an ultrasound machine with a probe. As a result, the one-day hospital stay required to perform diagnostic tests was replaced with an outpatient examination. The result is more precise examinations and less invasive procedures performed in less time. More patients can now be examined.

Comprehensive rehabilitation

To increase access to medical services for people who have won their battle with the disease but still feel its effects, the Provincial Hospital Centre of the Jelenia Góra Valley established a cross-border centre for comprehensive post-COVID rehabilitation. The project included the purchase of medical equipment and rehabilitation devices.
“We wanted to improve patients’ comfort, the quality of services and access to medical rehabilitation services for post-COVID patients. We are still waiting for the final equipment deliveries,” says Sylwia Modrzyk, director of the Provincial Hospital Centre of the Jelenia Góra Valley.

The modern equipment and medical devices purchased for patient rehabilitation are available to residents of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, particularly Jelenia Góra and Karkonosze County.

Renovation in Oborniki Śląskie

At “Leśne” Hospital, an outlying facility of the Lower Silesian Centre of Oncology, Pulmonology and Hematology operating in Oborniki Śląskie, the existing building was modernized, a single-storey infectious diseases pavilion was built and the necessary equipment was purchased. “Leśne” can serve as an isolation hospital. It is now possible to comprehensively diagnose and treat patients with infectious diseases and their complications, as well as isolate different groups of patients.
The project’s direct beneficiaries are patients from Lower Silesia; specialized health services can be provided to an additional 1,300 people. The project also provided for the creation of 10 positions for nurses and medical caregivers.
