At the beginning of July, Poland’s state of epidemic threat ceased to apply, and consequently, hospitals and clinics are no longer required to use masks.
What is the situation at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bolesławiec? People infected with COVID are still being hospitalized there, but their number has—as is only natural—decreased significantly. As the authorities of the Bolesławiec facility emphasize, residents are now dealing with the effects of the pandemic period, such as a lack of access to some doctors or the fact that some wards or primary healthcare facilities were simply closed.
Another consequence of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic at the county hospital is… a large supply of masks, face shields and coveralls. These will of course be used gradually, but on a much smaller scale.
It is worth noting that at the peak of the pandemic, as many as 20,000 masks were used and 20 tonnes of medical waste were disposed of each month at the Bolesławiec facility.
The management of the ZOZ emphasizes that these were three very difficult years, but thanks to the dedication of the staff, many people were helped. Vaccines were certainly a turning point in the fight against the aforementioned epidemic.
What are the positive aspects of the whole situation? The Intensive Care Unit was significantly expanded. Modern equipment makes it possible to fight more effectively for patients’ lives and health. Medical staff have also gained enormous experience treating patients in very serious condition. This experience will now be used in the facility’s day-to-day operations.
