Sulfur shelf fungus is a fungus that attacks deciduous trees. It appears, among others, on oaks, maples and willows. Unfortunately, the fungus has appeared once again on the old willow by the municipal pond in Bolesławiec, on the side of Kubika Street.

The tree has already been weakened by the fungus. A large branch was cut down earlier. Now new fruiting bodies of the sulfur shelf fungus have appeared. We appeal to the municipal services to monitor the condition of this tree. Weakened branches may break and pose a danger to passers-by.

At the beginning of July, we reported on a broken tree branch, which fell onto the fence of the municipal stadium in Bolesławiec. That tree has also been attacked by sulfur shelf fungus.

Sulfur shelf fungus poses a fatal threat to trees, but it is also a fungus of remarkable beauty. It is edible as well—after prior heat treatment. We wrote about the taste qualities of sulfur shelf fungus in a separate article: Sulfur shelf fungus, or Forest chicken on trees in Bolesławiec.
