The incident occurred on provincial road no. 364 in Pielgrzymka, in Złotoryja County. “The driver of an Audi suddenly moved into the left lane, overtaking another passenger car. Without making sure that he could perform the manoeuvre safely, he drove head-on toward an oncoming Opel. He hit the car with great force, then bounced off it, completely losing control of the Audi,” reports Staff Sergeant Dominika Kwakszys, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja. “He then rolled over multiple times, coming to a stop in a nearby park.

Among those who witnessed the entire incident were officers from the Złotoryja traffic police, who were driving an unmarked patrol car directly behind the driver who caused the collision. The police car was equipped with a dashcam that recorded the entire incident. The spokesperson said:

The officers immediately reacted. It was then also revealed that the driver who caused the collision had something to hide. As soon as he managed to get out of the car on his own, he tried to flee on foot. He was detained by the officers. Fortunately, neither he nor the other people involved in the incident were injured, and medical assistance was not required.

That was not the end of it. It emerged that the 23-year-old Audi driver was under the influence of amphetamine and methamphetamine. The District Police Headquarters said:

His blood was collected for further tests, which are to determine the concentration of the drugs.

What is more, the car driven by the reckless driver had neither a valid technical inspection nor third-party liability insurance, and its registration plates came from another vehicle.

The 23-year-old lost his driving licence, and the Audi was towed to a police impound lot. Explanatory proceedings are under way. The young man will be held responsible, among other things, for causing a road safety hazard and failing to obey a no-overtaking sign.
