The incident took place on April 19, before noon. “The duty officer at the Lwówek Śląski County Police Headquarters received a report of the theft of metal bunker gates from the grounds of a former training area, located in Popielówek (Lubomierz municipality). A police patrol immediately went to the scene,” reports Staff Sergeant Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer for the Lwówek police.

She adds:

At the scene, police officers found dismantled metal doors that had been cut up and prepared for removal. The perpetrators had managed to leave before the services arrived.

Fresh vehicle tracks belonging to the would-be thieves led officers to the place where the suspects were staying: two men, aged 36 and 31, and a 31-year-old woman who was acting as a lookout. All three were detained. What is more, officers found amphetamine and ecstasy on one of the men.

The three suspects now face a sentence ranging from three months to as many as five years in prison.
