Firefighters from OSP KSRG Nowogrodziec on the nighttime operation:

At 2:33 a.m., we were dispatched to a fire at a building materials storage facility near Podleśna Street in Nowogrodziec. Two of our crews set out for the scene. Upon arrival, half of the building’s attic, which housed the headquarters of a construction company, and one room on the ground floor were on fire. Additional forces and equipment were immediately requested.

We immediately deployed two water streams to cool the gas cylinders located right next to the building and to protect the remaining part of the structure so that the fire would not spread throughout the attic. We achieved these objectives; unfortunately, it was clear that the losses would nevertheless be enormous.

The firefighters added:

After additional crews arrived, the gas cylinders were evacuated to a safe distance, and numerous water streams were directed at the fire. The flames were brought under control after about an hour of fighting. Firefighters were sent inside to extinguish the remaining hot spots.

They also emphasized: “Because the incident showed signs of arson, police are conducting an investigation.”

Firefighters from the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec:

On February 17, 2021, at around 2:30 a.m., the command post of the County Commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec received information about a fire at a building materials warehouse on Podleśna Street in Nowogrodziec. The first firefighting crews reached the scene ten minutes later.

Unfortunately, by then the fire had already developed considerably and covered almost half of the warehouse attic. The first crews to arrive, from OSP Nowogrodziec, deployed extinguishing streams to protect the unburned part of the warehouse and cooled 11 propane-butane gas cylinders stored beside the building’s wall.

After subsequent units arrived from JRG Bolesławiec and OSP Czerna, Nowogrodziec II, Zebrzydowa, Ocice and Gierałtów, four water streams were deployed—two from aerial ladders—against the burning structure, along with two protective water streams to prevent the fire from spreading further. After the gas cylinders had cooled, they were moved to a safe location.

After about an hour and a half of fighting the fire, the firefighters managed to put it out. The firefighters then secured office equipment and carried out demolition work on the burned attic.

The officers reported:

Forty-five rescuers from five crews of JRG Bolesławiec and seven crews from volunteer fire service units took part in the operation. Two police patrols and the emergency power service were also present at the scene.
