Police officers from the Legnica traffic unit, while patrolling the A4 motorway, received information that the driver of a truck with a trailer was driving across the entire width of the road and was probably intoxicated.
– The officers immediately headed towards Zgorzelec, where at the 73rd kilometre of the A4 (Chojnów commune) they spotted the vehicle in question. The police immediately stopped the driver for inspection, preventing him from continuing to drive – reports asp. szt. Monika Kaleta from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – There was a clear smell of alcohol coming from the man. A breathalyser test showed that the 28-year-old had nearly 4‰ of alcohol in his system. The Ukrainian citizen was arrested and placed in police custody. The officers also confiscated his driving licence.
The foreign national could now face up to two years in prison. The officers said:
We commend the person who reported the incident for his civic-minded attitude and for notifying the police of his suspicions. His immediate and appropriate reaction made it possible to remove from the road a driver who posed a real danger to other road users.
