The incident took place on Thursday, January 21. – After 11 p.m., officers from the Police Station in Gryfów Śląski noticed a vehicle driving through the town with defective lighting – reports Sgt. Olga Łukaszewicz, press officer for the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski. – Despite the visual and audible signals given, the vehicle did not stop for inspection. The officers pursued the passenger car fleeing toward Lubań, while also informing the unit’s duty officer about the situation.

Officers from Lubań and the Independent Police Prevention Subunit in Legnica joined the pursuit. While fleeing, the driver of the Volkswagen Golf committed numerous traffic violations, creating a real threat to the lives and health of other road users.

How was the reckless driver stopped?

Sgt. O. Łukaszewicz: – A blockade effectively set up by the officers prevented the driver from continuing his dangerous journey, resulting in damage to a police car. The 18-year-old from Lubań County was arrested along with his passengers.

As it turned out, the young man had many reasons to flee from the police. The teenager does not have a driving licence. What is more, he got behind the wheel under the influence of marijuana and methamphetamine. But that was not all. Marijuana was found both on the driver and on one of the passengers.

The teenage resident of Lubań County will now face court proceedings for a series of offences. Let us recall that simply failing to stop for a traffic check carries a sentence of between three months and as many as five years in prison.
