A vandalism incident on Jana Pawła II Street was reported on Sunday, November 22, by a user of our forum going by the nickname Poszkodowany. “Someone scratched approximately 40–50 cars. They did it with sheer premeditation. Tell me, what drives a person like that?” he wrote. He added: “To report the damage to the police, you have to go there in person. Of course, damage to one car constitutes minor social harm, and so on. Such an act should be treated collectively for all those affected; after all, painting one car component costs approximately 400–500 zlotys.”
By Monday at 2:00 p.m., police officers had received only a few reports of scratched bodywork. “Activities aimed at identifying and apprehending the perpetrators are under way,” says Adriana Szajwaj, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec police.
Investigators are determining the scale of the damage. If it turned out to be less than 250 zlotys, the vandalism would be classified as an offense punishable by arrest, restriction of liberty or a fine. If the losses are greater, the vandals will face court proceedings for a crime carrying a possible sentence of up to five years in prison.
